    VOB to high quality MPEG-2

Hi, I’m new here so bear with me. I have ripped some VOB files from some DVDs using Smartripper. What I want to do know is turn those files into high quality MPEG-2 files so I can edit them using a video editor program. I don’t know of any video editor that will accept VOB files. I want the MPEG-2 quality to be as close as possible if not exactly like video on the DVD. Can anyone suggest a good program that will do that?

    TMPGEnc>>MPEGTools>>DeMultiplex (NOT "Simple DeMultiplex")
    First save .M2V videostream
Then select and save the.AC3 audiostream of your choice as an .MP2 file

    Then

    TMPGEnc>>MPEGTools>>Simple Multiplex
    Load .M2V videostream
.MP2 audiostream should load automatically, if same primary name (If not, select and load)
Set mode to "plain vanilla" MPEG-2 (NOT "MPEG2-SuperVideoCD")
Save with a new filename (".MPG" extender)

    Let us know of your success ;>}

      How about DVDx 2.2?

I've tried using DVDx v2.2 but it seems to only do the first chapter. Is TMPGEnc better?

      Thanks!

        almost but no sound

Thanks Setarip for the advise but it seems that the AC3 file is not supported . When I try to play the finished multiplexed video, I get a perfect picture but no sound at all. Any advise on how to change the AC3 file to MP2 or MP3?

"Then select and save the.AC3 audiostream of your choice as an .MP2 file"

My apologies - I guess the above instruction was FAR from clear.

It should have read as follows:

Then select and save the.AC3 audiostream of your choice (as an .AC3 audiostream)

Switch to the MAIN screen of TMPGEnc and load the .AC3 audio file (If TMPGEnc rejects it, under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab rightclick on the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" and increase to the highest priority. This will enable TMPGEnc to accept a properly encoded .AVI with .AC3 audio for input)

Save as an .MP2 audio file

            keep trying

i followed these instructions and it worked fine, took a few wrong turns on the way.

(as a newbee) the file exstenions will be displayed once you selected correct file for conversion, well good luck.
