    Help 4:3 To 16:9

Does anyone know if theres a way to just add the bars to the side of a 4x3 movie to make it 16x9
i dont want to disturb the quality of video just want to add the bars if possible ?

The reason for this almost silly question is when my dvd player is set to progressive scan i lose the ability to change screen modes(ie zoom, 16x9, 4x3 with side bars, 4x3 stretched to 16x9 and so on ) with my 16X9 tv. And the player is stretching 4x3 to 16x9 and that sucks. this is only when player is set to progressive playback

Are you talking about a DVD or some other format?

I don't believe that can be readily accomplished - without going through several conversions and, therefore, reduction of visual quality.

I wouldn't imagine that turning off progressive scan would yield unacceptable viewing...

Don't you have the ability of simply turning off progressive scan?

I have absolutely no idea what you mean by "the resolution on back of player"...

So, at the risk of angering you, I'll ask only one more time:

Don't you have the ability of simply turning off progressive scan playback?
