    copying dvds why ?

hi can anying tell me why when recording from my dvd player to my dvd recorder it reads all the dvd before writing it , why will it not burn directly from one to the other as cd's do ?,if the answer is (thats the way its done ) then i might as well replace my dvd player with my fast cd writer, as my nec nd-1300 is so slow for burning cd's
    cheers

which software are you dealing with?
copying the data might be the tools way of overcoming copy-protection!?

what kind of data are you trying to burn on the fly?

hi thanks for replying, the software i use is nero and easy cd/dvd and dvd decrypther they all seem to do the same,i am copying my daughters wedding dvd ,that i edited myself using pinnacle 8,and made a dvd file from it,so there is no copyright conflict, only otherthing i did not add on first post was the master is on a dvd-rw 2x and i'm writing to dvd-r 4x
      back to you all
