HELP Windows XP Cant play DivX movies

Hi can someone help me please , I have upgraded to Windows XP Professional and when i run my films through Windows Media Player , i cant get any pictures , just sound , i have G-Spot ,it says the right Codec is installed for showing pictures
But when i had Windows Me ,i didn't have any problems , now with XP , most of the films dont work , just sound
is there a problem with XP ? any help with this would be a great help thanks

1. make sure that your displaysettings of your system is set to 24 bit or 32 bit colordepth.

2. make sure that your system use an overlay more (Yv 12 Yuv 2...

3. make sure that you have no codec conflict.
( when you have Divx pro 5.05 installed delete all earlier
versions)

4. download FFDshow filter from the softwaresection of this site
and tell it to play all mpeg 4 codecs except wma and asf

5. (this is only a suggestion) Use the BS Player or the MV2 player
from the softwaresection of this site (freeware) to display your avi
videos. they are both far better than Windump media player.

i have downloaded BS....but when i play a AVI file...is says unkown format....MV2 web site is down
i dont have any conflicts with my codecs
and i have downloaded FFshow...it seems to make some of the films work
I think i will go back to Windows Me and the BSOD...heck least the all films work

to make most if not all movies work.... get the tsunami filterpack
mini 3.9.6.

you can also use the big one 3.9.9 but if you use this one
set up in custom mode and use only the default selection

both packs can be downloaded from Uncas homepage.

the big one has also a codecsniper installed that comes in handy
when you want to get rid of superfluent or messy codecs.!!

thanks for your help...but i have solved the problem myself...all it needed was Windows Media Player XP version Update....they now all work with the codecs ,i have
I guess the Windows Media Player that come with Windows XP Porfessional...had alot of BUGS in it
Glad i dont have to go back to Windows Me lol

Similar Dilemma

I have a similar problem, a lot of divx films worked fine on an ME computer with divx 5.x however since switching to a new computer with XP there are a certain few films that dont display correctly in windows media player. Even though the new divx5.1 codec is installed, visualisations are displayed and the time of the video files are all about 12 hours long. The films work fine in divx player though, is it something with Media player on XP then?what was the update that you used fox? Any help would be much appreciated

Hi , Yes what you need to do , for the films to work on XP , you have to download Windows Media Player for XP version
not the 9x version
and all the films will play with the codecs
the windows meadia player for Xp is 9.66Mg

I strongly recommend that you not use microsoft products to play back you avi files..... not only that they keep track of what you view and report that to MS sites the next time you watch a online movie with that...... there are better and more capable freeware players out there like the "BS Player" or the "MV2 Player" or the Zoom Player!!

Thank you Shiny#3, ive had some problems playing movies in XP. The movies where all pixily and stuff, or sometimes even all black. The only thing i needed was too set the color depth too 24 bit (i have a crappy graphic card) and i could see the movies again.
