    Scene detecting software

    Hi,

Can anyone help me with a list of software to automatically detect scene changes in a AVI or perhaps MPG

I would like my computer to either mark scene changes along a timeline
or indeed split an AVI up into seperate files, so it becomes a lot easier
to create a DVD with numerous chapter points.

Does the scene detection happen whilst capturing OR can the software detect scene changes with a video file already on the hard drive

    Any recomended programs ?

    Thanks

Are you aware that with a program such as "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (different than "TMPGEnc"), you can easily establish chapter breaks, either visually along a timeline or at predetermined intervals?

the program pinnacle studio 8 has scene detection
capabilities. it works with mpg and avifiles if
      the proper codecs are installed....
the scene detection of this program is very accurate
and 10 minutes for a 2hours movie is not seldom
for the detection progress to finish.

you might be faster with setarips method.....

Thanks to both of you for the info.
I have been trying to post a reply for several days, but have been unable to access this website for some reason ?

I do have "TMPGEnc DVD Author" , however I recieve an error message
when I go to the "Chapter cut edit" page.

The error message is: ( IDirectSound Buffer is not created )

I can however see how to establish chapter breaks etc. I'll try it out, once I've established the reason for the error message.

In regards to Pinnacle Studio 8. Do you know how accepting this product would be with avi's captured with a canopus codec ?

        Thanks again
