Dvd Type

Maybe someone has asked this before, and I coudn't find the thread with it, but does anyone know what the difference is between the dvd-r and +r. maybe thats just a dumb questions. My burner seems to support every format on earth but how do I know which is best to use?? or does it really make a difference?
