    DVD burner stopped working

I just had a new computer built and included a DVD CD rewritable drive. I was able to burn a DVD and CD once each and then it stopped working. It won't even recognize anything when I put any type of disk in the drive.
I get unknown device or drive not ready when I try and put a blank DVD or CD in the drive.
The burner is a Sony DVD RW DW-U14a.
    Did I buy a lemon?
    I'm using winxp.

Download the freeware DVDDecrypter 3.1.9.0 and install and start it up and see what it says (it is something of a sleuth). There is a setting build scsi/atapi device map, which you could try.
      Rig :

      P - 4 @ 1.7 Ghz, 768 mb (133) Ram, Intel 845 chipset M'board, Seagate 60 Gig., 5400 rpsm hdd, Maxtor 40 Gig. 7200 rpm hdd, Hauppauge 880 pvr card, etc.. O.S. - XP Home Edition.
