    Pioneer 106D external playback

Can I get a little help????
    Getting nowhere fast....using ver3.1.2....on Win98SE
Just bought a Pioneer 106D external writer w/IEEE1394 firewire. Hooked it up, checked device driver ok, firmware ok, visable in Windows as an active drive....seems to be a problem with reading...when I launch DVDShrink and select file to read on my new drive.... error says "Can't read files D:\" (where the drive resides). It does, however, read files from my internal DVD-rom (ATAPI). I'm fairly new to this dvd copy arena so any help would be deeply appreciated. If I should be using an older version please advise as to which version and where to be found.
    Many Thanks....

    1) PLAY the original DVD for a moment, then PAUSE it. Then try using DVD Shrink.
If this doesn't resolve your situation, then

    2) Use DVD Decrypter to "rip" the DVD to your hard drive in "File" mode - and from the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "All files" (NOT "movie files").

Then use DVD Shrink to "Open files" (NOT "Open Disk") - and select "VIDEO_TS.IFO"
