    bad burns

I have an I/O Magic dual burner and lately my -R burns have been horrible and have no idea whats wrong.

here's a scan of 2 of the discs.
I hope someone out there can help out.

The weird thing is my +R are no problem

It could be bad media, maybe you got a bad batch. What type of media are you using for -R?

    Try different media.
    Athlon 1800, 768 MB SD RAM, 40GB, XP, Lite-On 451S

thats what i thought at first but i've tried pretty much every different brand out there but same results.

the bad burns started maybe 2-3 months ago, and it was the odd disc that was bad..now im lucky to get 1-2 good burn out of 10.

Here's a wild guess-remember reading somewhere that scanning disc's(shrinking) wear's out our laser's faster than normal.

Think it was a disclaimer on the DVDShrink website-

Just a thought-hope thats not the problem.

You could re-flash your dvd burner's firmware w/ same version, you are now using. Seems the burner has "forgot" how to correctly burn a - R. You could try a different burning software, also with a RW, 'til it's fixed.

Try the DVDShrink v. 3.1.7 Beta 5 and use DVDDecrypter (a freeware) to burn with, by using the ISO file selection in Target Device of 'Shrink.

It's doubtful the laser has gone bad.

I tried again with Nero last night. ANd it give me a "power calibration error" or something calibration error about 1-2 minutes into it.
            any idea what that is?

quality proof, i will try your method and see if it will work

Try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your burner. Maxell makes one that retails for approximately $10US...
