Cant Convert or join.. ?

Ok, ive downloaded a file and i ordered my DVD burner today.. yea, its a movie, and it has 2 parts. ive tryed virtualdub and get errors ... its like not recogniziing the format, the only thing i can get these files to play in is Videolan, http://videolan.org , and they look great! The name of the file is:

*******.*.DVDRip.XViD-DcN.CD1
and
*******.*.DVDRip.XViD-DcN.CD2

I dont know how to join these and i havent tryed burning them, is it possible to join them? when i get my burner, can i use nero and just put the second file after the first one and burn them both to one cd and they play back to back, no wait (lag) time?
