Pioneer DVR-106D won't burn at all, at all

Having run out of ideas on this one, I thought I'd see if any of you whiz-kids have had similiar problems, or know of a solution, or even know of a good forum to go and ask!

I've just bought and installed a Pioneer DVR-106D R/RW burner (I think this is the same as an A06), set to region 2. However, I am unable to get it to burn anything. I've tried Nero 6, DVD Santa and will try DVDXCOPY once it's downloaded Nero reported an 'illegal disk' error, and DVD Santa reported a 'write failure'. Seems like a dodgy DVD, but I've tried it on 3 so far all with the same result. The DVDs I'm using are Packard Bell +RW, so not exactly a cheapo brand. I'm not copying a DVD at this point, just trying to burn a DVD-format video that I converted from AVI using DVDSanta. Don't really think it's the video format that's an issue.

I've upgraded the firmware on the burner to the latest 1.08, but that didn't help.

Being a newbie to burning DVDs, I'm not sure what could be wrong. The error messages aren't exactly helpful. I checked a forum where lot of users placed feedback on the unit, but nobody reported this particular problem.

This seems like one of a few things - either my burner is b0rk3d, the disks are not compatible with the burner (how common is that?), or the burning software I've tried so far can't cope with this brand of burner (though other buyers have reported success with this burner and Nero, so don't think that's the issue).

I've reported the issue to Pioneer, but I've been told that Pioneer aren't too hot at replying to technical queries, so I'm not holding my breath.

Anybody else had problems with this burner? Anybody know a more appropriate forum to post the issue?

Cheers in advance for any replies

Hi Cynthia. DMA is enabled throughout. Here's a bunch of error logs from different apps. Interestingly, Nero claims to have successfully formatted the disk, though InCD fails to do so. I suspect Nero is reporting incorrectly here. I've tried everything I can think of to no avail. I've tried multiple disks, so it's unlikely to be a media problem.

Even though it is great idead to use a RW disk try and use a different brand.

I would advise you to read more about SCSI errors here:

Could be something faulty with your disc. Had one Verbatim 1X disc - I could do the format but it would never burn without error. Try with another disc as suggested by Fil.

Tried different media brands (not cheap ones). I've given up and sent it back for a replacement. Thanks for your efforts folks.
