    nec 1300A can't read anymore

    Hi
I got this problem with my NEC 1300a fw1.0B
Bought the thing a year ago and have burnt a lot of discs on it, both CD and DVD. Since XP (pro) SP2 I cant read the things i burn. I can read some of the things i have already burned, but not many. No brand difference between the things i can read and not.
No drivers are available from NEC or MS. www.herrie.org (which is from where I got fw 1.0B) is dead.
Thing is, The discs still works on other drives, when I take the disc to work it is fine. When I bring a disc home there's no problem. Only thing I can't do is read the stuff I burn on the same drive.
When I put the disc in the drive stops answering until I take it out again.
    Device manager indicates no problem.
    Tried uninstalling/reinstalling - no difference.

    System:
    Win XP pro SP2
    NEC 1300a fw 1.0B
    NERO 6601 enterprise edition

    Anyone got an idea?

    Thnx /Ubbeus

Try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on the unit. Maxell makes one that retails for approximately $10 US...

      Nec original firmware from the original Nec website;

The one you are using is a hacked/modified version.

Also make sure that your DMA is still enabled.

In addition to the above - try to uninstall the writer from Windows device manager (delete it) and restart your PC and let Windows do a new fresh installation of the burner.

Well, Cd reader works fine now. DVD is still FUBAR, though.
        Actions so far:
        Lens cleaning
firmware upgrade to NEC 1.0B (if it works from Herries)
        deleting and reinstalling.

        other ideas? brick it?

Paper labels on the discs? No.

BTW, you told me to check DMA. How do i do that? I couldn't find anything about it on the Nec page you referred.
