DivX files causing Explorer to crash

I have a few DivX-encoded AVIs that play fine, but whenever I view the folder they are in, after a few seconds, windows explorer (not IE) stops responding.
It doesn't matter what folder they are in (even recycle bin), and it only happens to DivX files.
    I have XP.

If anyone can help me, thanks.

maybe explorer is trying to auto-preview the folder/files

run regedit and search for this string:
    “HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\she llex\ PropertyHandler”

    delete the value: "default"

      3 solutions:

      1. Uninstall divx, and download & install the latest version (5.2.1)

      OR

      2. Disable DEP (right-click "my computer", click "properties", then look around)

      OR

      3. Uninstall divx, then download & install "ffdshow"

      I highly recommend option 3

I tried this and it seems to be alright now.

        Thanks,
