Large black areas or blackouts in playback cause pixelation

When I am playing a xvid or divx file and a scene has large black areas or a blackout, it causes a lot of pixelation. I wonder if there is any way to fix or at least partially fix this? Anyone experience this or know how to fix it??

    much thanks

The file was probably created at too low a bitrate. If this is the case, there's probably nothing you can do about it (Other than trying to adjust your contrast).

If these are files that you've downloaded (as opposed to files you've created), "sometimes you get what you pay for"...
