HELP! problems with Lite-On sohw 1633s

I have a Lite-On 1633s and i can rip and convert the DVDs just fine but once it reaches the burn stage it stops during the "writing lead-in" phase. I use ritek ridata dvds and i have tried using nero, dvd decryptor and copytodvd to burn the dvds and none have gotten past the writing lead-in stage. I made sure DMA is enabled, and I updated the firmware. I also tried making the DVD-RW a slave drive. Nothing has worked. I had bad luck with the 1633s and I sent it back only to receive this one that does not work either. I have heard that there has been a bad batch of these model DVD-RWs from Lite-On. I have run out of ideas and am wondering if there is anything else to do or if I should just go to another DVD-RW, I've heard the NEC ND-3520A. Any suggestions are very welcome. If it helps, here's the error message I get with DVDshrink:

You could try a firmware update check here

After re-reading your post I noticed something it appears you have your burner as slave to your dvd-rom you need to change that, the burner should be primary device.

I've got a problem too with the same device. I've posted my thread below. I have an Iomega drive connected to my laptop via USB 2.0 connection but the output from the log file says it's a LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S

However, it looks as if your problem is slightly different to mine. I too experience problems when I'm using Ritek discs although these are dual layer. I haven't managed to burn 1 DL disc yet! For single layer discs I have no problem at all but I don't use Ritek. I'm currently using DataWrite 4x.

I've scoured a few forums and haven't got an answer yet. I'm beginning to think it may be the Ritek discs although I contacted Iomega and they told me that they weren't aware of any incompatibilty issues with my DVD Re-writer and Ritek discs.

Thanks for the advice kenredneck. My suspicion is that the problem lies with the Ritek discs. I'll give the discs you recommended a go next time I place an order for blank DVD media.

I don't like to compress my films too much so at the moment I split lengthy films on to 2 4.7GB DVDs using DVD Shrink.

Have you tried burning dual layer discs?

I tried it just to see if it works but no luck.
