    Cheap way of disableing macrovision?

    Hello,

My son has many old VHS tapes that are not available on DVD. Recently I have noticed the quality starting to drop on some of them, so I want to produce some back-ups on by standalone DVD recorder (Sony RDR-GX3). By the way its already region free. Currently when I try I get the message unable to record from that source!

Is there a way I can do this cheaply? I have looked around some pages and found some Scart leads at £38, or a red box at $79. Really I'm after a really cheap alternative.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

    This unit is appreciably cheaper:

Haven't used it myself so don't know how effective it is. Suggest you check out the UK AV forums and do a Web search to see what the verdict is. Doubt you'll find anything cheaper than this.

Thanks for the info joegib. I'll get one on order this evening.

I'll let you know how i get on with it (if you're interested). Looking through a google search, people seem quite happy with it.

      Cheers.
