You could update Nero (click here for update site), improve your media (CMC is not real good) and even change your firmware (see here). Note a change of firmware to modify this burner to a Benq will invalidate your warranty.

Please also read Golden rules of burning and Interpret Nero's error codes in my sig (in particular, "power calibration error").

Thank you for your helpful post! If I update the firmware for the burner, is it possible to reset it back to the default firmware if something goes wrong..? I just updated my Nero and will buy different dvd+r's... which brands do you recommend? Also, what specs should I look for in the media?

        You're welcome Brian.

        1. Normally, you can reflash it back, but read up on your burner carefully.

        2. I use Ritek +Rs, media code R03 and have never had a probelm. But this doesn't mean they are right for you. Match your burner and the disks - see burner/media compat AND player/media compat in my sig. Make sure you match your disks to both your burner and player, OK?

        3. As for media specs, look at media quality in my sig.
