video recording software

My VAIO computer (SONY) has a original Video capture card and related software that allows to record live TV broadcast.

I have little experience in recording , and maybe what I experience is normal?

I have never used any other software before, but the VAIO software I am using is really very difficult to use. It crashes a lot, takes incredible amount of time to run it, etc,etc, The Time Manager that makes it possible to record automatically is bad
anybody knows a good and free software to do same thing?

if you have windows xp, "windows movie maker" i find it better than the software that came with my capture card and is very easy to use....
