Speed transfer test results all over the place???

Hello, I am new to this so please let me know if you need any other info.

Using Nero CDSpeed I wanted to test my first burn results (there was some pixelation on the bottom of the video, but scandisk results were 100%). Media being used is TDK(ttg02) -r's. Using NEC 3520 burner fw 1.04. The transfer rate graph was all over the place, it should be linear correct? Here's the graph of the results. Let me know if there is anything I can do to improve performance/reliability. Was thinking of upgrading firmware, but didnt want to unless I had to. File originally avi (divx) and converted and burned using Roxio EZCD. Thanks for any help.
