    Audio Compression

I was trying to compress a .wav file, that I extracted from a CD with Easy CD Creator, using GoldWave, but apparently its (GoldWave) form of compression is not referring to file compression. And I know that Virtual Dub does not Open .wav files by themselves. So is there a way I could possibly still use Virtual Dub or is there some other software I should know about?

"apparently its (GoldWave) form of compression is not referring to file compression"

I use GoldWave fairly regularly to, among other things, convert WAV files to MP3, etc.

What exactly are you saying is the problem?

The file size is too large and I want to compress it to something smaller.

I understand that you are trying to compress an audio file.

Exactly what happens when you load the WAV file into GoldWave that prevents you from doing this?

When I attempt to compress it the file size does not change at all.
I go to Effects on the menu bar and select expand/ compress, set the ratio to 28% and them mark the circle where it says and compressor then press ok. I save the file and then check the file size using the explorer and it is exactly the same as the last file.

But just as I was typing I tried to do a batch conversion from .wav to .mp3 at 48000Hz, 320 kps and it did make it smaller by a fairly good amount, but I still want it smaller. Hmmm...

For some reason I always make the simplest mistakes. I think I'm autistic, when it comes to toolbars and dropdown menus....thanks again!
