    Grabbing music from video files

I have a lot of video files (mpeg, avi, rm), where music is played. Is it possible, to "extract" just that music and save it as an own music file (avi, mp3) ?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You can extract music from .avi's using Virtual Dub

For AVIs and MPGs, you can open them up in Virtual/nandub. To get the audio file, simply go to File -> Save WAV. It will extract the audio stream in whatever format it is in. If you want it in MP3 or some other format, simply select Full Processing Mode under the audio tab and go into Compression. Choose the appropriate compressor and a bitrate (where possible). Go to File -> Save WAV. You will get the audio file in the desired format. The extension of the file, though, will be .wav, but it is always an easy matter change a file extension.

Many thanks for all your help. This software does exactly what I was looking for, and best of all it is free too.
Now I can extract the songs from the videos, burn them on CD and can play these CD with every player.

Once again many thanks to you.
