    Problems burning with Sony DW Q28A

    I am having real problems burning with this drive.

    I can manage to rip and shrink a dvd OK but with nero I keep getting illegal disc errors when doing a simulated burn. I've tried 3 different media manufacturers (Emtec (which works fine on my Pioneer HD recorder hooked up to the telly), Imation and Verbatim).

    I've updated the firmware without success.

    I tried burning with DVDdecrypter with marginally more success. First try I get a coaster, the 2nd time it works OK. To save blanks I've beeen burning to a DVD RW, then the intended blank disc and this seems to be working OK for now. When the first one fails I get an 'Incompatible media' error.

    I've checked my DMA settings and it appears to be on Ultra DMA 2 Ultra 33. It's connected as the slave on the secondary connection so I'm not sure if this could be an issue, a DVD reader is connected as master. Obviously on my primary connection I've got the hard drive, but nothing as slave.

    I've attached my latest nero log error. I notice that it doesn't seem to know whether I've got DMA or not which is worrying.

    Can anybody throw any light on my problem?

    Thanks in advance,

    Darren

      UPDATE:

      I've upgraded to the latest version of Nero and evreything seems to be working fine now.

      One problem I do have is that despite uninstalling my dvd drives the nero log still says that DMA is off. Should I uninstall all drives and/or the ATAPI controller from Device Manager?

      Thanks in advance,

      Darren

        This is an old version, you should update to 6.6 here

        =======================
        You said your drive was set to UDMA 2, but Nero doesn't see it that way, it can't even determine the DMA setting of your hard drive.<not specified=""><lite-on sohw-1693s="" dvdrw=""> There's no point in even trying to burn with Nero until you resolve this issue.

        If your DMA settings are satisfactory when you check them in Windows Device Manager, then you'll need to uninstall Nero. Run the Nero Clean Tool and reboot, then install v6 and the v6.6 update. You should then run the Nero Info Tool -> Configuration Tab and verify that Nero sees your drives with DMA On.

        Must have been typing when you replied, I think the above answers your question. Uninstall and re-install Nero IF the drives show DMA ON in device manager.
