    CD burning fails

Hi, I'm new to this forum.
I've Toshiba m35x-s329 laptop with DVD/CD-RW. I bought it sometimes in Jan this year and still is under warranty period. From the begining, I had problem with my drive. I can listen music, watch movies on dvd w/o any problem but when it comes to cd burning, it gives trouble. Initially it wasn't burning data cds, it was giving errors like "source corrupted", "crc error", "file transfer error" etc but I was burning music & videos properly.
Now a days, it stopped doing that too. I am using Dynex, Memorex cds. I tried, Nero, Sonic & nothing works. It gives error like "failed to burn last track". I tried burning very small data, but it gives me the same error. I just downloaded latest Sonic DLA Packet Writing s/w, checked for DMA enability. The OS is XP Pro with SP-2.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I did not checked that. Actually, I don't know much @ that. When I had sent it to company, they returned my laptop saying that my drive is working fine and they had upgraded my laptop firmwares.

well maybe we should see if they did.

if you use nero, and open the historylog file, we can see if you can do a firmware update.

        c/programfiles/ahead/nero/nerohistory.log

if you can cut and paste the section that looks like this, that will be enough

What I did recently, I saw on some forum that nero InCD & Sonic can conflict, so I simply uninstalled nero. But when it failed again with Sonic, I tried to install nero again but it is unable to install & gives error like "unable to find nero.exe". I checked the primary & secondary IDE settings thru' device manager also & it is "use DMA if available".

i'd get rid of sonic, uninstall nero with the clean tool here

then re-install nero, log would help too.

I'll try this while I'm at home in the evening and will paste the nero log file. Is there any possibility as has been told by my friend that the drive being faulty?

absolutely, and your lucky you have warranty, i'd wait to see what you find with the firmware before going that route though.

I uninstalled the Primary IDE Channel and rebooted the comp but still the Current Transfer Mode for Device 1 is Not Applicable. How should I get reed of that. Do I need to do the same steps for Secondary IDE Chennel also?
