DVD Recorder discs won't play on PC

I'm on my second Ellion DVR-515A. I'm having problems recording stuff on it that will play ok on my NEC DVD Writers on my PC.

When I got the first Ellion, everything seemed to be ok, but it then started to become unreliable, and the replacement seems to be the same out of the box.

Without boring you with all the details, is anybody familiar with these sorts of problems:

    - DVD+RW showing up as "Disc is Empty" in DVD Decrypter, but playing fine on the DVD Recorder, and a Pioneer Standalone

    - DVD-R recordings not reading properly, although, sometimes a VOB or two might be retrievable.

I'm using Phillips DVD+RW that ended up being unusable from the first machine that I've used Alcohol120% to erase/format, and DataWrite Titanium/BulkPaq DVD-R media.

I'm reaching the end of my tether with this.

    Any help gratefully received.

    Cheers,

    Steve.

Since the recorder burns at 1x, what is the speed of the datawrites?
As speeds increase, manufacturers are changing the dye to adapt to
the faster speeds of burning, I would try a name brand slower disk,
    no faster than 4x rated.

The DVD-Rs I've tried have all been 8x - so your theory could be correct.

I've got some Imation 4x DVD-RWs to try - I'm hoping these will work better than the DVD+RWs that I've formatted on the PC.

      Cheers,

      Steve.

I ran into some posts a while back that reminded me of your
problem, some guy had found disks that were top quality and 2x
speed(old-old stock), I found 1x certified media for recorders but
        they are 4$ ea.
I might try a sample pack.

        assuming you are in england

          ok, thanks for that.

I'll see how I get on with the DVD-RWs before trying other media.

          cheers,

          Steve.
