    Problems burning with Nero

    Hello
I really hope someone can give me a helping hand. I have been using nero and dvd shrink to back up discs/films etc for over 12 months without any problems. During this time I have always used Ridisc 4 x dvd-r without any problems. For some reason I have now had 5 discs in a row failing just after dvd shrink has finished and nero starts to burn. I have changed nothing and cannot understand why I am having a problem. Any clues? I have copied the log below.

The drive is not recognizing the media, could be your firmware is out of date or some badk discs in the latest batch you bought. I looked at the "codeguys" website, (see link in the FAQ's) and there is a BYS3 firmware available.

Info gathering was conducted here by a retired user here named setarip. it seems the Nero Log never shows the media code for -R media. If I rememebr correctly only once did a partial code show in a log posted by cynthia.

@andrew2112 - In addition to the fw update you might also consider running Force Aspi to install the aspi driver. it is available here

Thanks for all of your suggestions so far. I have updated the firmware to BYS3 by flashing the drive and loaded force ASPI. I have always used the same media and the current batch have been successfully used many times over. I have also tired some other media today but they also produced the illegal disc message. Do you have any other suggestions? I have copied below the latest log.

See #1, 3, 5 & 6 here. Your ASPI is verrrrry old but Nero uses its own anyway, IIRC.

Have you tried burning with DVD Decrypter?

            Regards

Thanks for the reply Les. I have tried dvd decrypter but get the same problem. Should I remove the ASPI?

I'd update it, if you can. Didn't jm give you a link to the latest? But, it could be the drive. Tried cleaning it?

I have justed run the ASPI check and I have version 4.6. This was obtained from the link that JM provided. Is there a more upto date version available. Yes I have cleaned the drive. Still no luck. This is so frustrating.

I think the latest is 4.71 something or rather.

You may have some bad media in that batch. IOt happens. Go and get something else - some Taiyo Yudens or Verbatims....real high quality stuff.

4.60 is the version always recommended in the forums at CDFreaks, they always recommend to run KillAspi to remove 4.71 and install 4.60. I assume that's the reason why JM provided that specific link. I have it installed too and it is working fine, more than six months now.

I don't know if this will help anyone give me some advice but I have had no problem burning cds or a dvd rw using shrink and nero. My only problem is with -r discs.
