Welcome to the Digital Digest Video forum earnest5!

"SONY DVD RW DRU-710A Version: BYX4"
Update your firmware. You are 1 version behind. Go here and download "BYX5" - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1917

Make sure you have the latest firmware for your burner. That will ensure more media compatibility.

    Installing your firmware:

    1. Don't run any other programs at the same time
    2. Don't have any disc in your burner at the same time
    3. Restart your PC after you have flashed it.

    "Physical memory : 255MB (261616kB)
    Free physical memory: 29MB (30212kB)
    Memory in use : 88 %"
Free up some system memory. All of those icons next to your PC's clock. Right click on them, then left click on "Exit" before you start burning. You can also go here to learn how to stop these programs from starting up everytime you reboot. - http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=56373

    "Disc Manufacturer ID: CMC MAG,"
CMC MAG is the worst blank media you could use. Get some better blank media such as Verbatim DataLife Plus or Taiyo Yuden.

    "3:08:34 PM #15 Phase 36 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1832
    Burn process started at 8x (11,080 KB/s)"
Burn at 2X. At the fastest burn at 4X but, start out with 2X.

    "Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)"
Nero is telling you it doesn't like the blank media you are trying to use. Get a better brand.

    "3:09:37 PM #21 CDR -1106 File Writer.cpp, Line 311
    Power calibration error"
I get a 'Power calibration error' or 'Calibration area (almost) full' error message. Why?

Power Calibration is controlled by the recorder.

Before any write operation, all recorders must do a 15 step power test to determine the optimum power for writing to the CD; this is called "Optimum Power Calibration"(OPC). During the write, it continues to do this test to get the best write throughout the whole CD; this is called "Running Optimum Power Calibration" (ROPC).

This whole process is controlled by the recorder, though initiated by programs such as Nero. There is an area on the inner part of the CD for the test and test data info to be stored. You can use this area up to 999 times.

If you receive the "Power calibration error" or "Power calibration area is (almost) full" error message, the cause will be either poor media, poor power, or a defective recorder.

    Please try the following solutions:

    1. Update the firmware of your recorder. Please check the manufacturer's website for the latest version.

    2. Try another brand of media.

    3. Try different power connectors, and for recorders, do not share power with other devices. It needs its own power connector. If the error occurs with an external recorder, the power source in the chassis could be the cause. As a test, try to take the recorder out of the external chassis and connect it internal.

    4. Try different configurations, such as taking the CD-ROM to the primary IDE bus as slave and have only the recorder connected to the secondary IDE bus as master.

    5. Send the recorder in for service.
