DVD burning failures with Nero on DW1640

I used TMPGEnc and AVI Converter to create avi/divx’s and burned as ISO using Maxell DVD-R (Media ID: MXL RG - 02) with my new Philips DW1640.. The first burn was successful, but when I viewed them on my Philips DVP642, the ones created by AVI Converter were fine, the one created by TMPGEnc didn't have audio. (GSpot showed that the audio tracks were encoded with PCM, not mp3). So I re-encoded using AutoGK (with mp3 audio track specified).<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
    <o></o>
For testing purpose, I burned the avi/divx's on a Sony DVD+RW. This time I could play them OK on DVP642.<o></o>
    <o></o>
So I went on to burn the avi/divx's on my Maxell DVD-R, but now I encountered "WRITE ERROR" at the very beginning. (See nero1.log below and attached).<o></o>
    <o></o>
From this forum I learned about the imcompatibility between Roxio CD Creater and Nero Burning ROM. I took the advice to do complete cleanup of Roxio and Nero (using Roxizap and Nero/InCD cleanup tools) and re-installed Nero and NVE (with several reboot in between).<o></o>
    <o></o>
After the process, I am getting exactly the same write error (see nero9.log atached).<o></o>
    <o></o>
    Additional information, OBSERVATIONS and questions:<o></o>
    <o></o>
    1. I have successfully backed up 2 commercial movies on the same Maxell media using Decrypter and DVDShrink with same burner.<o></o>
    <o></o>
    2. The Maxcell DVD-R was classsifed as class B media (I bought the package of 15 almosts a year ago from FutureShop, aka BestBuys), but so far have created 6 coasters (among 3 successful burns: 1 with ISO mode 2 with DVD movie mode). 6 failures out of 9 burns -- I really don't think Maxell could be so bad !<o></o>
    <o></o>
    3. These avi's were on different drives - some on a network drive , some are on a FAT32 drive (Noting that the encoded commercial movies were stored on the network drive, and the burns were sucessful).<o></o>
    <o></o>
    4. Could this be a hardware issue (this is a brand new machine)?<o></o>
    <o></o>
    <o></o>
I am at the end of the rope, I hope you experts can help me. I thank you in advance for looking at my problem.<o></o>
