Buffer and burn time problem

    Buffer and burn time problem

    I have a pioneer dvr110 and i when burn the buffer goes up and down constantly and not by small percentages but it can go down to 8% and back to 93%

    So i tried burning anyway at x16 with a verbatim media and while the burn was successful, it took me 30 minutes!

    i know that at x16 it should take more like 3 minutes

    any ideas on why this happens?

    Is your DMA in PIO mode? Post a log from your burning program. And 16x is too fast for some burner/firmware/media combinations.

        5 min 40 sec is hall of fame(cd freaks) full disk/high quality

        now nero and/or your firmware may be corrupt.

          My dvd-rom is on an onboard raid - that if switch the raid mode off it only accepts HDDs, thats why it has a raid controller

          as for my virtual drives, guess i have alot of ISOs i need to mount

          and i dont know what you mean by history but i can give you my specs

          P4 3.2GHZ
          Gigabyte 8I915P Duo
          Radeon X600XT
          WD 160GB Sata

            I think NERO reads the blank DVD to see what the maximum burn speed is for that disc and then tries to burn it at that speed. When the log says a lot of Queue again later messages, I think it means your burner is having a hard time burning at that speed. You may need to do a firmware update or just try burning at a lower speed. It's safer to do that anyway

              Try turning some stuff off, with dvd burners so cheap, there's not much need
              for cd burners(obsolete), I had a similar problem with an OC I was doing.
              I suspect my firmware became corrupt, I reflashed and reloaded nero
              just to be safe. One thing is for sure, something is hosing your system.

              Is everything turned on in bios? Turn off what's not being used.

              Those bleeding edge mobos are a royal P.I.T.A.

                I tried disabling my virtual drives and burning at x4
                still no effect

                  edit : i just checked , you are the guy with a chipset driver problem - did you install the matrix drivers yet?

                    the buffer is still crazy and it burns at 2x (while i set it at 4x)

                    Edit:

                    I found that problem
                    it was that the burner was connected to an onboard RAID
                    now its not

                      That explains nero's problem with identifying the drive in the log,
                      raid chipsets aren't meant for atapi drives.

                          Always connect the optical/atapi ide drives to the primary or secondary
                          ide controllers on the motherboard, there are very few other controllers
                          that work right.

                          The new serial mobos and hard drives free up the ide's.

                              I usually put my combos/dvd-roms on the primary and burners on secondary,
                              for the frequent firmware flashing I do. I am a little too picky some time.
