    Nero burn problem. please help

Hello, I have a problem when burning to dvd.

What I'm trying to do is burn Scarface anniversary edition to a blank dvd.

I've read and experienced that the latest version of Dvd shrink has problems with the encryption on the dvd. So I went ahead and used Magic Dvd ripper to rip the files from the dvd onto my hard drive. I then used Dvd shrink to compress the 7gig files back down to 4 gigs by going to "open files" and selecting the video_ts folder.

Once I got the files compressed, I used "Nero OEM suite" which came with my dvd burner. this is my burner. http://www.mdmm.com/products/optical...in1-16-8DL.asp

My problem is, when I go into nero and load the compressed files, I select the 4x burn speed (tried 8,12, and 16x also) and it starts the burn and a few seconds later, the dvd comes back out and says something about a reset error.

The blank dvds that I'm using is TDK dvd-r 16x 4.7gb. I've also tried it on a Sony dvd+rw 4x 4.7gb dvd and it worked fine. I don't think the TDK dvds are bad, becuase I used them to burn The bourne Identity with dvd shrink (no problem with protection so I used that) and nero on 16x speed with no problem.

I have updated the firmware for my dvd burner, and I also have "DMA if available" set for both my primary and secondary IDE controllers.

Also here is my log file from nero when trying to burn Scarface.

    scuzzi optical drive?

    and you're missing this driver,
    "File 'Drivers\atapi.sys': Ver=5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158), size=95360 bytes, created 03/08/2004 22:59:44 (Adapter driver for rec)"

Nero and aspi may already be hosed, you are using an external drive
and we can't tell anything unless you burn at 4x.
usb2 does well no faster than that
Your drive and it's firmware are excellent tho.
        Media looks topnotch also.
        Nero needs updating.

I went back and tried it at 4x and it work perfectly. So why is it that I can burn at 4x speed but not at 16x speed? Both the burner and the blank dvd support those speeds. Also, thanks again for your help.

The usb interface (all the stuff at each end, not just the cable) will
theoretically handle 480Mb/s. I can leap tall buildings in a single bound.
Bend steel, faster than a speeding bullet. Now for reality, the best I have
seen usb2 on a healthy computer is 12MB/s, just about 8x dvd burning speed.
With your burner inside the computer(on a 33MB/s interface),8x would be an optimum speed with grade a media.

Not sure why this is happening.....

I used Magic DVD ripper to rip Black Hawk Down and then dvd shrink to compress it and nero 6 to burn at 4x and Im still gettin a reset error.

                Here is the log.

The only change I made since getting scarface to work was updating nero. Before I had 6.6.0.8, now I have 6.6.0.18.

I also used Nero info tool to check my ASPI and it was working fine for nero ASPI but not the system. So I went ahead and used ForceASPI v1.7 and followed the directions, but still getting the reset error.

Turn your DMA on for your hard drive.

Read and implement the Golden Rules of Burning.

thanks for the fast reply, I went into device manager and clicked on my hard drive and went to properties. I did not see an "advance settings" tab to change the dma settings. Is there some other way to enable dma for my hard drive? btw. my hard drive is a serial ata.

You do it thru the IDE controllers - see the DMA FAQ - link in my signature.

I have read the dma faq topic here http://forum.digital-digest.com/show...threadid=44808 and also read the post by Cynthia. The post says that I need an ATAPI driver for my sata hard drive. I noticed the current driver I have is a SCSI which does not let me change DMA. I did a search for Esdi_506.pdr and found out it does not support Windows XP. Not sure where to go from here and if I am even doing this right?

                          like I said earlier,
"Nero and aspi may already be hosed,"

I am afraid you will have to run killaspi and nero clean tools and reinstall,
not really up to speed on aspi, all I know is it's caused me a bunch of grief
in the past, when I started using XP and got rid of dinosaur programs
that were written for dos, the problem went away.

try running kill aspi, nero uses it's own aspi layer, xp native alternative works fine,

leave your scuzzi(serial controller) alone, it's fine.

Sorry for all this hassle, just trying to get my burner to work. Ok I will run killaspi, then uninstall nero and use nero clean tools, then reinstall. that sound right?
