Actually, I believe they are Philips041's under the "Value disc" name. I use and re-use them all the time with no problems. You wouldn't think that from looking at the generic packaging, though.

well i guess if they work for you, how can you go wrong at that price?
i've tried them before, caused nothing but failed burns. my writer doesn't like them. i have 10 memorex -RW's i use a few times a week and rotate, just finished burning one a minute ago. these i have found to work well with my liteon. never seen a skip on one of these. i know some may not believe it, but it's god's honest truth. i wish i got them at 4.98. cost me 30 bloody dollars!, you know how many cigars i can get with that?

LOL! And I see the LT. updated his signature. About those discs... Never used them here... as I have no RW's but I know that memorexes are about the best you can get, other than Verbatims.

BTW - why are neither of those on that "quality media" page blutach has in his signature?

They are if you read down the page a bit. And Memorex disks don't measure up to top quality except for the MCC and RICOHJPN MICs (although many of their other MICs would qualify as second line).

dvd-r 4x memorex could be quite good, some mcc and ritekg04's.
and even their cmcmagaf1's were top rated
    dvd+r 4x were a little more mixed
with 8x just the ritekr03 for the +r
    and cmcmagae1 and TTg02 for -r
memorex is a crap shoot, unless you see made in japan

I'd be careful about the Pacific Digital Mach-16 internal burner also. I bought the same one last week for $39. Upon installing I discovered that this drive does not allow you to change the Book Type Setting so it is basically useless to me when burning +R discs. 3 of my four players at home will not read the +R format. I've been doing some research but so far have not come up with any utility that will manipulate the bitsetting for this drive. I'm on my way to Staples now to return it.
