Default Sudden failure(s) in making copy of back-up

Relative newbie here with a query.
Last week backed up a copy of War of the Worlds using AnyDvd/DVDShrink flawlessly. Decided to make a copy of my back-up,as I have done numerous times in the past, going directly to Nero>Favorites>Copy disc. Burned copy no problem. Puppy scratched DVD so I repeated the process. However this time got Burn Failure
after two attempts at around 55%.Media is Verbatim ...tried at 4x&6x.
Any observations as to why Iam getting these Burn Failure Nags would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Blutach- Thanks for the response.
Process fails at around 55% using Nero by itself. Tried to c/p Nero log but was informed it was too large a document.
Again...just curious as to why this problem all of a sudden. Just to make sure Nero was working allright I just made a copy of another back-up with no problem.

go down to the bottom of the log till you hit the last

    serial number
    "Windows XP 5.1
    IA32
    WinAspi: -"
this is the beginning of the last burn
start the copy just after your serial number

btw the war of the worlds backup was probably a bad burn or a bad blank
it would be nice if everything was consistent

Thanks Chewy. Here's the info. Again, my original back-up is fine ...it's playing
    now. Just can't figure out why I can't repeat the same process I did a few day's ago!(Copy of a back-up)

    "Recorder: <LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1693S>Version: KS04 "
Update your firmware. You are 3 versions behind. Go here and download " KS0B" - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2056

Make sure you have the latest firmware for your burner. That will ensure more media compatibility.

    Installing your firmware:

    1. Don't run any other programs at the same time
    2. Don't have any disc in your burner at the same time
    3. Restart your PC after you have flashed it.

"DiskPeripheral : WDC WD400EB-00CPF0 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off"
Check your DMA settings - How ? do this -> Go to Control Panel> System> Hardware Tab> Device Manager> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers> Right Click Primary IDE channel (and Secondary IDE channel after you finish with Primary)> Properties> Advanced Settings Tab> Transfer Mode or go here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101616

Do the above from both "Primary & Secondary IDE channels".

I (We) and you need to look at whats in both "Transfer Mode" and "Current Transfer Mode". Screen shot below is what I'm talking about.

If it is in "PIO" mode. Click the "Driver" tab, and uninstall the driver. Then reboot. Upon rebooting windows will automatically reinstall the driver and it should go back to "DMA" mode.

(Your screen may or may not look the same as my screen shots)

    "Physical memory : 381MB (391152kB)
    Free physical memory: 39MB (40816kB)
    Memory in use : 89 %"
Free up some system memory. All of those icons next to your PC's clock. Right click on them, then left click on "Exit" before you start burning. You can also go here to learn how to stop these programs from starting up every time you reboot. - http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=56373

    "DVD-Copy on the fly"
On the fly is bad idea, especially if your DMA is off! Go here on how to copy the data to your hard drive first with Nero. - http://forum.digital-digest.com/show...threadid=45497

A easier way it to do a ISO Read then a ISO Write in DVD Decrypter like this - http://forum.digital-digest.com/show...threadid=48358

    "Burn process started at 8x (11,040 KB/s)
    "
I highly recommend burning at 2X, 4X at the fastest.

    "Disc Manufacturer ID: MBIPG101"
Use a better brand of media such as Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden from a reputable store.

JMET-Thanks...for all. After all your efforts the very least I could do was to thank you at both your habitats.

jmet got almost all of them(a lot)
    if you stay with nero
    "Nero version: 6.0.0.28 (Nero Express)"
    I would update.

what's a little scary is the hard drive in pio mode with sp2

    don't pitch that media yet

after firmware update it might burn a lot better

Chewy...and many thanks to you also. With the exception of the Nero update,I have followed all recommendations. Successfully updated firware. As you noted, was in PIO mode>uninstalled the driver>rebooted and returned to "DMA" mode.
Will do some more testing when I get home from work tonight.
