What burning software do you use?

Usually there is a menu with all speeds available, and you can choose the speed you want.

that's right. firmware and media are factors. i use 1x-8x discs and can only get 3 burn speeds (4,6, and 8)

                what media are you using?

probably not the best....philips dvd-r & verbatim dvd-r........after reading other posts in the forum in regards to media.......

but what i've noticed....if i use imageburn to burn the image of my dvd....on my stand alone dvd burner....i can obtain speeds of 4x.......and this is with the same media......

for some reason i think it's limited to my current fiirmware...which is up to date on my external burner as well.....

                  thanks for your response......

the verbatim's are excellent discs. 4x is a good burn speed and is used by most people including me. you might want to try different media such as sony or maybe get different speed range of those discs.
