    TDK 16x DVD-R error

I have an Indi DVD 12x+/8x- Internal Multiformat Burner (TDK) and have not had many problems until recently. I purchased a spindle of TDK 16x DVD-R discs from Costco and when I try to burn my backups I get an error saying illegal disc.

I am using Nero 6 to burn, which has always worked good for me. When I am in the burn options the only burn speeds it shows are 1,2,4.

I have the lasted firmware installed and TDK tech support said it should be able to burn these discs.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

The firmware came from the TDK support site for the burner.

The disks I used before were TDK DVD+R 8x. I got the DVD-R because I can play them on my Philips DVD player (it won't play +R).

i would try another media. do you have an RW disc?

also, you might be able to make good use of the +r discs by changing the book-type to dvd-rom if your writer supports bitsetting

Yeah, I still have some +R discs left but now am stuck with a spindle of 50 -R discs that won't work. That is what really sort of bums me out.

I forgot about the book-type thing. I had downloaded some small app that did that but can't recall where I put it. I will try that. I guess I will need to try and return the spindle, but that will really be a hassle (long story).

                    LT,
you're the liteon man around here, I noticed the rebadge, but even the liteon
drive has nothing recent, what's up with that?

just tell them that the discs are bad, make a scene in the store if you have to. customer is always right. can't be passive.

@chewy, i know, couldn't tell ya, try talking to their tech support!

Okay, I finally got the answer. I contacted Tech Support online again and posed the same question. This time however the tech told me that the discs were NOT compatible with my burner. According to him, DVD-R underwent some sort of major revision for the 16x and rendered them incompatible with my burner. When I asked him why the first tech had told me they were, he replied that he must have misread my post, yeah right!
Anyway, I did try Verbatim 16x and had the same problem so I am assuming that this is correct. I contacted customer service and explained my predicament and they offered to mail me some replacement discs.

That's utter nonsense, all they had to do was update the firmware and tell
the burners to use the same write strategy as slower disks. About the time TDK said goodbye liteon.
