Default Software to convert .avi files to DVD format

Friends: I am trying to convert my .avi files to DVD format. I tried my Nero, but I am asked to pay more for the plug-in. I tried Cucusoft from www. shrink.com, but that indicates that it will take about 6 hours to do a DVD. Is there a better software I can use to do this? Thanks for any help.

it seems you wish to seek free methods. there is a great guide written by benbryant using avi2dvd in the authoring and editing forum.

My friends: Thanks a lot for your help. I will try out your suggestions and give you guys a feedback. With regards to the reference to free stuff, I was surprised I am asked to pay MORE for the Nero plug-in. In the past I have bought software and was disappointed that they do not deliver what they promise. Thanks again!!!!!!!!
