Problem with iPod - Cant put it in disk mode to restore it

I have the 20GB 4th gen non-coloured iPod. Today when I was at school my iPod froze when I turned it on.. I thought it was normal because this has happened before.. all I had to do was plug it into the power/usb and hold the menu and play buttons and it worked.

I just got home and tried that.. it didnt work. If I try to turn it on without it being connected to the power or usb cord it wont turn on. So I connect it to both the power and usb cords and first I get the apple logo, then it goes to the "sad iPod" logo and shuts off. I tried to set it to disk mode so I could restore it but it wont go. I tried doing it connected to power and not connect. When it's connected it goes to the battery charging logo but the battery isnt moving or anything like it usualy does. When I try to do it when it's disconnected from power it just shuts off. I did exactly what the apple support website (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=617710) sais and I cant get this to work.. anyone know whats wrong? Im so mad... help me out. Oh yea.. when I connect it to my computer nothing pops up.. no iTunes.. nothing in my computer.. nothing.

    Peace

Well, I hate iPods as it is, can't help you there. My advice would be to smash it to pieces with a big hammer and then buy a halfway decent MP3 player, like the RCA Lyra audio/video jukebox. Visit www.smashmyipod.com for inspiration. No offense, I just do not like iPods because of their popularity, overpricedness, and the fact that you need all these accessories to make it halfway decent - there are even full length books now called "the best iPod accessories". Sheesh.

Again, smash it with a hammer and get a better MP3 player OK, all fun aside, try taking the battery out and putting it back in.

Your choice. I just don't like iPods is all, so if I were to get one, even for free, I would sell it and buy a better one.

^ I didnt "like" them either. They're not as bad as people make them out to be tho.

Trust me. The fact that yours broke is a huge pointer I mean, have you SEEN all the accessories and crap made for the iPod? You could easily spend thousands of dollars on those. I mean... my MP3 player was 30 bucks, and with an SD card will hold more than half an iPod nano.

I had a creative mp3 player.. I forgot the model number. It was a 1GB and it was good... untill it stopped working.
