Help! Making DVD Compat DVD's with Nero?

I have imported VHS tapes and burned to DVD with Sony DVDirect. I edited the movies with NeroVision Express and created a custom movie. Using Nero 6.6 UltraEdition to burn the movie to DVD+R with the Sony DVDirect, I am unable to burn the DVD so it is playbale with my DVD player. It does play on the Computer. The DVD player that I am using is a Onkyo DV-CP702 which indicates that it is compatible with all DVD+R, DVD-R, etc. What am I doing wrong? Where can I look to find the answers?

what about the different setting for europe vs american pal system setting.

kinda like 240 volts vs 120 volts.

there needs to be some kind of conversion and then try the burning.

I played around with a few other things and found that I was burning on DVD+R and the player is finicky with +R. I tried burning in -R and seemed to solve my problem. Before burning, I check the PAL settings per manual. So far - so good.
        Thanks for your help!
