    DVD Decrypter

ISO read, then ISO write with DVD decrypter or ImgBurn. I prefer them over Nero or Sonic.

if you have the backed up shrunk copy and you have the original in your collection for safe keeping.

        Hi guys,

Just followed the instructions to do a DVD copy (of a copy) using Nero 6.

Everything was going fine until the copy part finished then I got a "can not perform copy - read error". This as I say was straight after the copy section had completed.

you need to clarify if you tried copy on the fly, which is between 2 optical drives, this is tricky to say the least

the drives shouldn't share the same cable and the source disk has to be an excellent burn

even with my setups and testing I can only rely on 4X with medium quality source disks

          if otherwise forget copyonthefly

I never bother trying "on the fly" either. Seems more of a risk and it only takes a few minutes to rip the ISO to the HDD and burn with ImgBurn.

Thanks for the quick reply Chewy.

Didn't copy on the fly. I have a freecom DVDrw which I copied the very good dvd from and would be writing to the freecom when burning as well.
I always burn at 2.4 even though the freecom can do 4x. The copy was read at maximum speed though, think it was around 3000kb/s. Should I slow down a bit maybe?

              Edit: Copy from a Philips DVD+RW 4x to a Memorex DVD+R 16x

try to get it to even play?
shrink or dvddecrypter to put it on the hard drive

                    does that computer have usb2?

The disc I'm trying to copy plays fine. In the Freecom and in Philips DVD player.

Are you suggesting I try shrink or dvddecrypter to make the image?

Freecom DVD is connected via firewire. No USB 2.0.

yes but just rip in file mode to hard drive and then play to check and burn manually with nero

you might be able to slow the read speed with dvdecrypter

Right, I'll see what I can do and let you know. Will look at that firmware as well.

                          Cheers for now.

Used DVDShrink and backed up to hard drive creating Audio and Video folders. Strangely DVDShrink needed to shrink the DVD by 2% other wise it wouldn't fit on another DVD.??

Played the film folder using VLCMediaplayer no problems.

Burnt to a DVD+R no problem and plays on my Philips DVD ok. Slight degradation but I would put that down to the copying and the shrink, but near as good as perfect and the kids won't mind that much as it was one of theirs.

                            So, many thanks Chewy!

                            Kevin

(Won't touch the firmware as everything went ok.)

I'm having a debate with a friend about copying a copy; Assuming no further compession is applied, does Nero give you an exact clone of the copy? I say that since the files are transferred verbatim, that the cloned copy is the same. Is this true?

Nero copies the image exactly from the original on to the blank disc, similar to ISO read to ISO write.
