Using Nero Burning ROM to Make a Copy of a Copy

Lets say, you successfully backed up a DVD for your kids and you have 2 kids with a DVD player in each of their rooms. They get in a fight every time they want to watch "Sponge Bob Square Pants - The Movie" cause their brother/sister has the "copy" in their DVD player. And the parents have the original for safe keeping.

As, this may pose as a problem, it is not. Do you need to use DVD Shrink again to copy the already copied DVD? Nope, Nero allows you to make a identical copy of the already decrypted copied DVD.

You cannot simply go buy a DVD and use this method to back it up. It must be decrypted first with DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter or similar software then burned to a disc, before you can make a copy of a copy.

First thing your going to do is insert the original copy you wish to copy into your DVD-ROM/DVD Writer drive. After that go ahead and start up Nero Burning ROM. The main Nero screen will come up with a small "New Compilation" screen in the middle (red). (If the wizard screen didn't come up, just click "File", then "New".) [Screen Shot Below]

Using Nero Burning ROM to Make a Copy of a Copy

At the top left hand side of the "New Compilation" window, it will either say "CD or "DVD". You want it to say "DVD", if it says "CD", click the down arrow and change it to "DVD" (red). [Screen Shot Below]

Now you need to tell Nero what you are wanting to create. For this, obviously we want "DVD Copy" (blue). [Screen Shot Below]

Using Nero Burning ROM to Make a Copy of a Copy

      3. Now for configuring the tabs at the top. There should be 4 tabs at the top. "Image", "Copy Options", "Read Options", and "Burn".

I will take screen shots for all 4 of my tabs to show you my settings I chose.

First thing you want to do is click the "Copy Options" tab and take the check mark out of the "On the fly" box (red). I highly recommend not burning "On the fly", although it is faster. You are more likely to encounter errors and/or poor playback. On the same tab you need to select which drive you want Nero to read and make the temporary image from (blue). Then select the "Read Speed" (green). [Screen Shot Below]

Now click the "Image" tab. Here is where you would tell Nero to save the image file (.nrg) . Go ahead and click the "Browse" button and choose a place on your hard drive to save the image (purple). Make sure you remember the location. In the "Image file:" box, you may want to alter the file name to something that is more clear, I renamed mine to "JUST_LIKE_HEAVEN.nrg" (black). [Screen Shot Below]

Using Nero Burning ROM to Make a Copy of a Copy

Now click the Read Options tab. The only thing I changed is the first drop down box. I changed it to "DVD-Video" (red). If you receive read error messages, try changing the "Error correction" & "Handling of non-correctable read errors" settings (blue). [Screen Shot Below]

Ok, your almost done. Just click the "Burn" tab now. Here is where you need to tell Nero to actual "Write" (green) the DVD and and at what speed you want to burn it at. I recommend burning no faster than 8X but, might have to go down to 4X (yellow) or even 2X for cheap, low quality blank media.

Using Nero Burning ROM to Make a Copy of a Copy

Now your ready to begin. Go ahead and click the "Copy" button in the top right hand corner.

After clicking the "Copy" button, Nero will now create the image file (.nrg) you will need to burn the 2nd copy. [Screen Shot Below]

When Nero finishes creating the image file needed for burning, this screen will come up. Just insert a blank disc in the appropriate drive and Nero will automatically detect it after a few seconds and start burning the image you created above. [Screen Shot Below]

Your screen should look like this when it finishes. [Screen Shot Below]

Congratulations, you have now made a copy of a copy!

            backing up a copy

that my friend seems long and complicated, all I do is put one in my DVD Rom and te blank in my burner and use shrink a quick anylise of the disc then click backup and sit back and in 30 minutes it is done. A couple of mouse clicks is all it takes, by the way I allways use DVD decrypter to burner and always have great results
