Hey TNT,
Lightscribe does have a unique look. It actually looks pretty nice and it will never smear. You could even emblazen a photo on there, I did it with a photo on a Photo CD and you can see pretty much all the detail.

The only two down-side things are that 1; the discs are still kinda expensive, but they're coming down, and 2; it takes around 20+ minutes to burn the design onto the disc and the drive actully gets pretty hot.

But it is a nice thing to have to make special DVDs with. I'm pretty sure there still is a sample lightscribe cover of the new Harry Potter movie at CDCovers.cc.

Thanks. Sounds like it has potential as a toy.

I remeber, a few years ago, Yamaha had a CD burner with T@2 (tatoo) technology. Printed designs in the unused portion of the disk. I wanted to get one, but never got around to it. Oh, well.

T@2 as I understand it has evolved into something like LightScribe. Uses blue top discs instead and is supposed to look better.

If you are outside of the US my advice would be to just grab a Canon InkJet printer for your disc printing needs.

I have an epson I'm quite happy with and a Casio thermal as well. I also have my trusty multicolored sharpie set. It's a hobby and I'm always looking for new things. Thanks guys.

I figured 'you' should be the one to answer about your Epson and Casio since I remember the thread where you described all of that a few weeks back but I guess Celtic never got a chance to read it.
BTW, Thanks for the suggestion about the alternative ink .

And you're right, it is a nice 'toy' to have in your arsenal.

I have an internal hp lightscribe burner. It came with the pc, wasn't really looking for a lightscribe but I have enjoyed using it.

I can see it just fine at an angle and my eyesight is not 20/20 by any means!
It definately does have a unique look on the discs. I have probably burnt about 10 dvds and 5 cds and have been really satisfied with the results so far. Mine came with Sonic Express Labeler which has templates, backgrounds, ect. and you can of course, import your own images.

The cds are nice because you can burn the song titles on it and that looks much better then my other method ( black sharpie!).

They do take about 20 or 30 minutes on average and something that is a large image takes longer depending on detail.

They are still kinda of expensive so I save them for "special" discs. If the price keeps going down I will probably use them more. So far all I have used is the Verbatim lightscribe discs and they have been great.

It's been a "fun toy" for me so far!

Not a gotta have but a fun to have!

I have LightScribe 640i it's great IMO the images come out very nice like smkymntgrl says it does take some time to put the image on the discs.The thing with me is I am a cheap bastard and dont like to pay extra for the discs so I dont use it often.I would recommend the HP DVD Writer 640i this thing has been a very dependable burner for me I have not had 1 bad disc from it and it's over a year old it does have bit set also

I dont even bother with printing on disc, I realy dont care what they look like as long as they play good.

BR7 I'm cheap too. The cds and dvds were a x-mas present, I haven't bought any myself yet!

You're right photo_angel what really matters is how they play for sure! But it is handy for cd's and if they can look better I'm all for that.

It's like the old saying about why you climb a mountain (because it's there).
I have it, might as well use it.
