    Burning problems

Hi i have been using nero forever but just got a new HP7170pc and am having all kinds of trouble burning

the dvd burner is an HP DVD Writer 640c with Es04 firmware

i just bought a pack of tayio Yuden printable dvd's(which are supposed to be top notch) and all iget is coasters

I see there is a new firmware out for this burner but i don't know where to begin on how to do the firware upgrade(did one a while ago on older PC) and it was a nightmare

anyway i checked and DMA is on,i also have dvdplus which came with the PC and imgburn installed ,this wouldn't be the problem would it.

    please help

I'm no expert but I installed new firmware for my burner no problem. I used decrypter (tools>drive>check for firmware updates) it took me to the Firmware page, found my firmware and then followed the directions. I flashed mine in safe mode (just because I was paranoid) and had no problems. I was worried about doing it but it was quite easy. I was having trouble burning newer media ex. 16x when I had been using 8x. The firmware update seemed to do the trick.

Please post the log from your burn or if you used Dvd Decrypter in file mode, please post that log.

Burning a bit too close to the edge, reset your target size to 4300 in either Recode or DVD Shrink, whichever you happen to be using.

                  Simulation started at 8x (11,080 KB/s)
Back your burn speed down to 4X until you get a good burn and then you can start stepping up the speed if you want.

                  DVD high compatibility mode: Yes
Turn off high compatability mode with the DVD-R's and see if you can get a successful burn.
                  Nero Version: 6.6.0.16
Better late than never, sorry just noticed this...try version 6.6.0.18 here

An upgrade to the new Nero may fix this error, it means that your drive isn't seeing your media correctly...there should be more numbers here other than zeroes.

                          understanding Nero log

Hi i posted in another thread that i was having a lot of trouble and in my log i was told by locoeng that this part of the log should have more then 0,s

                          Media Specific [16..63]:
                          00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
                          00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
                          00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................

anyway after trying so many different things i took the pc back and they replaced the drive and everything seems to be working now but the new log looks like this

                          Media Specific [16..63]:
                          00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
                          00 02 FE 10 00 02 FF A0 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
                          00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................

does this seem better, should there be more numbers instead of the 0's ,don't really know what it means

                          confused is all

                          thanks

                            Have you updated your Nero?

Have you updated your firmware for your burner?

What type of discs are these?
