Default Why does my computer burn so slowly???

    Hi, everybody.

In December of '05, I got a new computer with 1GB of RAM, 3500+ AMD Athlon 64 processor, and 250GB hard drive. I just tried to burn a DVD, and it took about 25 minutes. What's strange is that on my old computer, I had 28GB of RAM and no DVD drives. I used to copy DVDs using an external DVD burner hooked up via USB 2.0 and a 2nd DVD reader-only also hooked up via USB 2.0, and it only took about 23 minutes using both devices. I don't know anything about Sonic MyDVD, but that is what program I'm using because it came with the computer. I thought with a faster computer, came a faster burning experience. I'm lost. Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

Check to see if your DMA is enabled. Click here to find out how.

Forgive my ignorance because I'm not a techy at all, but what is a DMA?

On "current transfer mode," it says, "not applicable," and there is nothing I can see to change that. Also, I have 2 sets of Primary IDE and Secondary IDE. I wonder why I have 2 sets?

So what does that mean? Do I need to change the part that says "not applicable?"

"Not Applicable" just means there is nothing (not a drive) connected to that IDE channel. It is normal and perfectly fine.

Your drives are on the "Secondary IDE Channel". Your hard disks are on the "Primary IDE Channel".

Is there a reason why the burning process is so slow? Is it the computer or the Sonic MyDVD program? A combo? Something else?

Most of the time, the duplicate sets and slow burn times are due to
    the ide drivers.

I don't know anything about Sonic MyDVD
