Best quality dvd's

What are the best quality dvd's on the market? Does it matter? Are the cheapest ones as good as the expensive ones?

From what i've been told Verbatim are the best quality, though unfortunatly they've not been working very well for me. Also I have tried cheaper dvd's but they mess up even quicker. So imo I would splash out that little bit more

Using a 16x Plextor, burning at 8x with taiyo yuden,
over 300 backups without as much as a skip.

Taiyo Yuden are the very best discs - I use Panasonic (TY dye) from SVC.co.uk and these work out at only 30 pence each.
NEVER EVER use cheap discs - they are not as good as more expensive ones (30p is NOT expensive in my mind). The reliability of cheapo ones is seriously NOT worth the gamble.
If something is worth backing up then do it properly and reliably - use good quality discs - preferably 'Made in Japan' ones - not Taiwan or Hong Kong.

I use Verbatim 16x and have very good luck with them. I also use the Verbatim lightscribe 8x and have had great luck although I have not used them near as much (still a little pricey). When I can't find Verbatim on sale I sometimes use Fuji and they have been pretty good also. I have also had good luck with some "cheap" discs too. I have used about 100 Playo 8x with maybe a couple bad burns but for the most part they have been suprisingly good! I got them at Staples on sale one time for about $4 for 50 and could't pass that up. I've had some "Dynex" DLs given to me as a present and found them to be crap!

It depends on your burner and players compatability with your media. What works for some doesn't always work for others.

When I first started backing my movie collection I just bought whatever was on sale(cheapest). After learning about media in this forum, I am now sold on mainly Verbatim.
Best thing to do is watch the sale ad's.
If you have a Best Buy near you they are infamous about having Verb's on often.
If I know I need one spindle I will pick up a second for backup. It's hard to pay regular price, but if I had to I would buy regular price good media over low quality sale media anyday.

Verb's and Sony and Taiyo Yuden. Seem like the best quality.
Too much you say? How much would it cost to replace the original copy of your favorite title your 3 year old decided to get a hold of?

i don't see verbatims where i shop and when i do find them they are overpriced. i use sony discs (o8d1 & TYG02) ID's. rock solid media.

I buy Taiyo Yuden DVD+R 8x (YUDEN000 T02), and have not had a problem in over 300 backups. I purchase them from http://www.supermediastore.com/ who have some very good sales. The "good" discs can also be "cheap" - if referring to cost (especially if buying from the proper location).

I use verbatims for those dvd's I care about.
Use TDK's for copies I make to loan out. (I trust most of my friends, but I do not trust my friend's kids, so they get the TDK's, which I can get on sale for about 20 cents per disk.)

I agree, I would NEVER loan my originals to anyone to trash, some people don't even get to borrow my backups.(due to past performances!) Key word is LOAN!
