new DVD rom drive fitted....cant copy discs with nero..

    Gives "read error" message.

Have tried all ways, but nero wont recognise the new rom drive as a source.

New drive is browsable and plays DVDs fine - just nero has probs with it.

    Anyone come across this before?

When you say "have tried all ways", does that include Un-installing and re-installing Nero?

I can tell you that Roxio and Nero do not play nice with each other. You have to have one or the other, but not both, as Roxio is a controll freak, and gets very annoyed when other programs try to take its place.

have tried with the nero disc I got with the machine about 6 months ago..and using an upgrade from the nero site.

But it just bails out afer getting to about 7% of creating the image file using the copy disc option.

I have tried to copy data DVDs and backed up movies - no dice either way.

Otherwise the new DVD ROM drive works fine, but nero aint having it!!

8x burn speed with drives sharing cable won't work unless you are lucky

It's faster and better to buffer to the hard drive

It may be the firmware you are using is out of date for the dvd rom device here it is: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2059 . there is also newer firmware for your burner too (i have the same burner): http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces.
If you use dvdd or imgburn you can right click where your drive is listed and click check for firmware updates. It will open a browser window to the correct page. Any questions to updating your firmware should be asked before you attempt it.
If you use these forums you will not have to face that...

one of the firmwares is a dead link, the other is not for the drive Ive got - least that is the message I got when I tried to install it.
