    Default tdk dvd-r 16x

Trying to burn a movie with a new batch of TDK DVD-R 16x. Got the attached error log. Burner worked moments earlier with GQ media DVD +R.
So I'm sure my burner and software is working.
Do I need to update firmware or just return the discs to Costco?

You might want to try to update your firmware. If it needs an update that might be the problem. Have you used 16X speed disc before?

yours is a special oem version

you will need winrar to extract
    http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html#SOHW-1633S

use bsoy patched, flash in safe mode, no disks in drive

if you are not sure how to get to safe mode hit F8 as your computer starts for most computers. I wondered why you would want to do it in safe mode, perferably without networking, it's because there is alot less going on in the background. I had to reflash once because of not doing it in safe mode, don't know what messed with the drive but something did. If you can have the drive alone on the cable you'll be safer too.
If you use these forums you will not have to face that...

Thanks for the link. Downloaded the patch, however, its an .rar file (or something like that. Not at my home computer and going by my feeble memory). What do I need to open it to utilize the patch for my pos oem burner?

    http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=winrar

    try 3.2 or 3.3
    should give you a trial

after patching it will not be an oem anymore and they were good scanners,
but everything wears out sooner or later

Thanks Chewy. Will try it when I get home tonight. And did you mean burners when you said 'they were good scanners'?

Chewy, pardon for the newbie-ness of my question. Can you explain the scanner component of the dvd. I think the two are obvious, readers and burners. But what's the difference between scanning and reading. Again please excuse my ignorance.
