    Is this crazy?

    This is really off topic.

Is it just me, or does too much money drive a person mad?

I saw today where Warren Buffet, the 2nd richest man in the world gave most of his fortune to charity. What charity? The Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation, so the 2nd richest gives most of his money to who, oh yeah the richest man in the world. He gave 37 billion dollars to the foundation, yes that is 37 BILLION. I hope the money is going to go to good use, they have enough to help a lot of projects.

Bill Gates also announced at the same time that he is leaving his job at Microsoft to head the foundation full time.

they say it is being controlled by gates and used in the charity, i'm sure some clever skimming will be done though. with that much dough, i'd like to see more charities and causes being addressed. they should both be shot for being so rich though. OOPS! did i say that?

seriously, if the dough actually gets where it should be, that's pretty good. bill's move next. i also heard that angelina jolie donates 1/3 of her dough to charity, not bad. jacko has competition and might lose his place in the guiness book.

The Bill and Melinda Foundation do some exceptional work with the third world. There main concern is health such as help protecting/treating people from HIV and Aids.

He will still have 7 Billion leftover.

i think the money is in good hands; he already does a tremendous amount of charity work, already the wealthiest person on earth, he won't need/use the money on himself

My son wrote a lengthy report on him and I was amazed at the amount of good he and his wife have done. It's not just vaccines for developing countries and AIDs awareness in India. He also donates to American schools to further reading and writing, and has a scholarship program.

It's nice to see people who "have it all" give back to those who don't have anything. Angelina Jolie is quite the philanthropist. If you can say anything about her you can definately say that. (I'm sure you guys could say alot more!)

People like Warren Buffet and Bill Gates have more money then they can ever spend, and more then plenty to leave for inheritence. That is far more then generational wealth. Why not give to people who could most benefit from it, wouldn't you? Billions!! He11, why not give some of it to me!! lol

I think Warren Buffet made a wonderful choice. At least the money will not end up in gvmt hands. If it was given to his son, then tax laws would have depleted it. By setting up a trust (and managing it), it stands a great chance to live on forever.

It will actually do a lot of good really quick, I imagine. As part of the donation clause was that it had to be spent in the first year of receiving the donation, so that it would not add to the assets of the foundation.

I actually read a report saying they were only a drop in the bucket to what is really needed and it amounted to a big thanks for nothing. Like my $5 in the Fireman's boot will save the March of Dimes.

61 billion and thanks for nothing? That guy needs a swift kick in the nuts.

Bill Gates starts it, Buffet adds and then the founder of Ebay adds anoother 10 billion....

Talk about a gift horse in the mouth.

If I was thirsty, I'd lick that bucket for the drop. I used to work for a halfway house in Philadelphia for runaway kids. My friends used to say I was nuts. I learned that you help people one by one. I was at a hot dog stand with a friend of mine when this guy came up to me and asked if could wash my windshield. I looked at him and he really looked hungry. I said I how about if I buy you a couple of dogs and fries with a coke instead of the two bucks he wanted. We ended up eating lunch together. My friend who was a little hard core said he couldn't believe how hungry the guy was. He asked me, "How did you know?". I said I could see it in his eyes and he looked thin, this isn't rocket science, ya know.
