    CdRomPeripheral : SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-616E atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: Off
DMA needs to be enabled for all drives.

Disc Manufacturer ID: AML, Media Type ID: 002, Product revision number: 0
    Only use quality media...try Verbatim.

This is Roxio's driver that is known to create conflicts with other video burning software...I suggest complete removal from your system via this clean tool:

    http://www.softpedia.com/progDownloa...oad-21600.html

I would also suggest creating an ISO with DVD Shrink and burning the resulting image with Imgburn...it's free and can be found here:

    http://www.imgburn.com

    EDIT:

Also, i noticed that SCSI/Raid controller is not working correctly under device manager - and it won't update.
Chewy will have to help you with that one.

    clue 1,

DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 6Y160M0 atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On
160 gig 150 8meg cache SATA hard drive

    SCSI/Raid controller
is running in some ide/pata emulation mode and dma is irrelevant

not to worry, doesn't need updating

I've read the DMA off on one drive may drag other devices down...no truth to that?

dma/pio status on a pata ide drive will not pull a serial hard drive into anything, that why everything's going sata

never seen pio drive cause another drive to go into pio, might be possible

important thing to remember is dma does not apply to the serial interface
in any shape, form or fashion

Maxtor 6Y160M0 atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On
starting to make sense all these hard drives on port 1(not the secondary ide).

    Thanks for the help guys.
    I ran the roxiozap.
But i'm now confused about what else you meant (don't have much knowledge whatsoever).
My interanl DVD writer comes up doesn't recognise blank discs when shrink asks to insert disc, and the external HP burns everything thens fails at lead-out still.
Any more help/explanation would be knidly appreciated

the blanks you have are lower quality, playo?

try burning at 4x, but do buy something better.

let's see if updating nero helps

Updated Nero via link. In Nero, the highest write speed (other than
    'maximum') was 2.4
Just tried a burn to HP external and it appears to have worked
Thankyou, any ideas why original writer's palying up?

you might want to turn off some stuff running in the background, usb is an intensive bus to be using for burning, try to burn at 4x manually, or put a disk in and select the burn speed first

imgburn will remember a 4x burn setting

you have plenty of memory, it's potential conflicts you need to worry about
