Help! I think my Lite-On is dead

I have a Lite-On SHW-160P6S and it stop reading a disk was present today after my last burn. Any input to troubleshoot this 6 month old burner would be appreciated.
The computer will see the drive but when I click on the drive with the disk in it asks me to insert a disk.
It will not read any DVD, CD, or Data.
The green light comes on when I close the tray, but does not read anything.
    I have done the following:

    1. Checked that cables are tight.
    2. Updated firmware to PSOB (Sucessfully)
    3. Restored Autoplay defaults.
    4. Removed device and re-installed through the device manager.
    5. Cleaned out burner with compressed air.
    6. Did a system restore at yesterdays restore point.
    7. Attached is a scan of my last burn at 8X

    I am just baffled.

Any thoughts before I shop for a new one, and If a new one is needed I welcome recommendations.

    Thank You

      Thanks for the tip NightTran.
I can not seem to roll it back. I don't understand why. Error attached

I updated the firmware to PSOB "after" the drive failed to see if that was the problem.

I thought maybe the new firmware might fix the problem. but was mistaken

C0deKing I think it was put out a utility called MtKFlash (which I have never used by the way)

Ya can read it here and if it was a bad flash could help.

I would double check with C0deKing\at the cdfreaks forums for additional info/help. Nobody knows more about LiteOn drives than C0deKing

          Thanks for the info jm1647.

I did get it to read again, but the tray is being stubborn and I figure I maybe just wore it out.

I am thinking about this LG.

Anybody have one that could give me an inside opinion.

I know there are reviews on newegg, but I would rather trust the opinions from members of this forum.

Thanks for the help so far.

I've read where LG's have a problem ripping DVDs with protection and slow down to a real slow riping speed and stay there and the tray has to be cycled to make it speed up again. It is in the RipIt4Me FAQ. I don't remember what model it was or if it is all of them. Good Luck with whatever new burner you choose.

I think most Lite-On's have a one year warrantee. I returned my SOHW 1633s after a few months and they replaced it with no fuss.

@ jm1647 The LG would be for burning only.
Keep in mind I haven't bought it yet, just looked like the best bang for the buck.
                I have a DVD-Rom to rip.
                Is this a good plan?

@toomanycats I wish that plan would work, but it was a gift in a custom built computer from my brother. He does not have the receipts nor does he remember which supplier her got it from. He bouht one part here one part there.
It was a GREAT idea however.

I use a DVD ROM to rip from and I like to burn +R media all the time and bitset to DVDROM. You'll get a lot of input in this thread. I myself personally have not bought anything but LiteOns and have had a very good experience with them. Especially with the support from C0deKing and his fw's.

Ok thanks for the heads up. I do prefer R+. I have had problems with R- in my standalones.
It looks like Benq's are not to be found. Which I have heard good things.
I saw NEC 3550a but have read too many negetives compared to positives.

Should I stick with lite-on? I do prefer black to match my system.

Lite-On never asked me for any receipts or where I purchased it from. They asked me for the serial number.

Thanks toomanycats I give that my first avenue. I will post back what they did for me.

I just re-read your post and wish to offer some advice. Never blowout an electronic device with compressed air. You can cause a static discharge/ or a current flow which can damage I.C.'s. Vaccuuming the inside of a PC can do the same thing though I know lots of people who do it. The vacuums made for electronic devices have plastic which conducts electricity so as not to build a static charge. This was something I was taught in electronic's school. Some I.C.'s operate at very low voltages and blow easily. The Laser Diode is supported by a magnetic field with extremely fragile copper wires connected to the windings. It doesn't take much to damage them or knock the tracking balace or focus gain out of whack.
