Cannot burn DVD-Rs but can burn CD-Rs fine

    Hi guys,

    This is really frustrating me!

to cut things short, the drive cannot burn DVD-Rs

    1) my drive can copy and burn CD-Rs fine with no problems
    2) my drive can read DVDs
    3) I have upgraded my firmware to the latest version of the drive
    4) I have updated my SATA drivers for my motherboard
    5) tried two different brands of media
    6) I have RMAed the drive back to the supplier, but it got returned as No Fault Found (drive is a Plextor 760SA)

Thanks for the quick reply mate

I did try and follow that URL, but not sure if SATA controllers have that option enabled. When I first enabled my SATA controller through the BIOS though I get this

I have tried everywhere to search for these damn drivers and they all display the same error, even the ones on the disk, could this be the problem do you think?

thanks for the welcome, I got this forum address from google when typing in the error

The plextor on port 2 ID 2? shouldnt it be ID 0 to be a master?

I look for guidence from the guru of SCSI maps Chewy.

I dont understand why its coming up as SCSI as well

Even if it burns CD-Rs fine, do you still think its a SATA problem?

god this is really annoying me

that's usually the problem and from your nero log we have a steep mountain to climb or a long row to hoe.

let's start with your mobo model and the driver version for the sata

sata was designed for hard drives not dvd burners, you seem to have the opposite

Yeah im starting to regret getting a SATA burner now. I have got a old Socket 754 MSI Motherboard for a Athlon 64

                  Model: MSI K8T Neo

                  SATA info
                  5.1.2600.220
                  17/10/2003
                  VIA Technologies, Inc

I could try and burn it in Vista RC1, but not too sure if Vista supports any burning programs yet

you have to set bios right? and use the generic sata drivers?

                    or try these?

Tried them drivers above, still got the same problem

I think I need to try it in another machine thats got SATA ports, when I look at the disc after its failed, sometimes it gets stuck on "leading out disc" or somethiing, and theres a big miscolored circle on the disc, not right from the inside, but about a cm from the inside if that makes sense?

I went into tesat mode in imgburn and ended up getting over 63 write errors. Surley the drive must be ****ed?

that via south bridge chipset should support that sata plex?

we need to check the bios version and bios settings
