Thinking of getting Benq 1650s and Liteon SHM-165H6S

Is this a good combo for reading/writing?

i currently have a sony dvdrom and a liteon 411@811.. but the drive trays seem to stick in the "closed" position or open briefly to only be closed. I have no idea why they do this but they stick! the third cd burner on my computer works perfectly fine with opening/closing...

so im hoping to upgrade to a new setup that allows me to have at least the same compatiblity that ive had before. a little faster speed would be nice but not mandatory.

any difference with the black and beige drives besides color?

i have stealth covers for my drives so color doesnt really matter, unless theres a performance advantage to be gained.

Just the color, Black is more popular and more demand that is whythey are a bit more $

I have a beige tower and a black burner no big deal to me.

When I bought mine black was the only one in stock.

well, had to do it.. lol i went for the newegg bargain for the liteon retail unit since it was only 5 dollars more with free shipping. figure some extra cds and cables and faceplate seemed like it was worth 5 bucks.

now to find a good reader to go with it....hmm

I trust liteon more for it's reading/scanning ability than for it's burning ability,
the newest samsung seems promising, the nec's and pioneers also.

2 dvd burners with different reading and burning characteristics give the best combination

              how does
              Sammy SH-S182D - OEM

              or
              Sammy SH-S182M/BEBN - OEM

              look?

the one without the lightscribe seems to have some rave reviews on there.

sorry if i broke any forum rules by posting links to outside places. or if not, disregard. i shall look deeper into the rules right now..to check.

it seems no stock on the pioneer.

i suppose i should just go with the samsung drive without the lightscribe, since i dont really need two drives that can do it. will post back to see how things go.

                    well, I picked up a Liteon-165H6S and a samsung 18x SH-S182D

im using the liteon to read, and the samsung to write. and well, the samsung hasnt burnt a coaster yet.. on + and - R.. and +R DL. all the media ive used are okay brands, memorex(dual layer +r), TDK (both + and -). TDK is rated at 16x, memorex was only rated for 2.4 DL.

and my nero scanner is broken.. it just freezes when you try to load it. so no scans. but i say they read perfectly fine in my set top dvd (samsung) no glitching and whatnot like my old burner.

My 165H6S is starting to act up, and I've only had it installed a couple of weeks. I might have burned 4 disks with it, and scanned even fewer. It has changed its description from "DVD-RW" in My Computer to "DVD-RAM", and now refuses to recognize disks. I can put them in the NEC right above it, & they read fine, so it's not my system - it's the LiteOn.
