    suggested bitrate?

I'm encoding DVD movies to H.264 using MeGUI and x264. What's a good bitrate setting for near-DVD quality and reasonable filesize? I know the H.264 encoded video should be able to do smaller files for mostly equivalent quality, but I don't know how much. I've been using bitrates of 1500 or 2000, which make video files about 1.2 to 1.7 GB.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

i find ~2000-2500kbps is transparent for dvd res, anamorphic (on my PC monitor & HD display anyway). course this depends on settings and to a lesser extent the content/compressibility.

however what is "near-DVD quality" depends on how good your display is
